Isobel Whittaker Independent Funeral Services opens on Pirehill Lane, filling the final vacant unit on the parade of shops.
With a business name of Isobel Whittaker Independent Funeral Services, it will come as no surprise to learn that the person behind it is called Isobel Whittaker, supported on the business side by her husband, James.
We spoke to the couple about what brought their new venture to Stone, Isobel told A Little Bit of Stone:
“Since I started working in the funeral industry, it has been my dream to open my own funeral home so I can offer every family that comes to me the personal service that they deserve.
I left college at the age of 17 and started to work casual hours at a local, family funeral home in Tean, before moving on to work full time at a larger funeral home in Cheshire. I worked in Cheshire for almost 5 years before opening Isobel Whittaker Funeral Services, as I believe that every funeral should be as unique as the person that has passed away and their family.”
Isobel explained to us what made her open her business in Walton:
“I grew up in the Staffordshire Moorlands so spent many a day visiting Stone and found it to be a beautiful town filled with friendly people and lots of great local businesses.
When it came to choosing business premises, we went to see Pirehill Lane and were blown away by the welcome we received from the other businesses even before we had taken on the lease.
Also, being situated in a residential area will give us the opportunity to get to know lots of lovely local people.”
Isobel went on to explain what services she offers and how she hopes to stand out:
“Isobel Whittaker Funeral Services offers help and advice with all aspects of funeral arranging, pre-paid funeral plans, the actual funeral service all the way to a headstone or burial of ashes afterwards.
As a small independent funeral home, we want the funeral to be as unique as your loved one. Alongside offering the traditional service, we can offer a range of alternative options to suit exactly what your loved one would have wanted. For example motorbike hearses, funeral celebrants and coffins designed by the family.
We hope that our personal touch can ensure each service will be personal to you and your family.”
Finally, the couple shared details about their opening and operating hours:
“We opened our doors on the 14th February and are planning an open day on Saturday 2nd April with a number of different suppliers attending to showcase all of the services we can offer.
Our office is open between 8.30am-4.30pm Monday-Friday unless we are out on appointments, however, our telephone line (01785 336722) is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We pride ourselves on being contactable and here to answer any question you might have, day or night. Our Chapel of Rest is open for viewings by appointment, but these appointments can be day, evening or weekend.”
