The country’s best Scrabble players will be spending a couple of days on the tiles in Stone this weekend at the British Matchplay Championships.
The tournament – being held at at Yarnfield Park conference centre – is the flagship event of the Association of British Scrabble Players and has been held at the Yarnfield venue since 2005.

Players will battle it out over 19 games across the bank holiday weekend, with defending champion Brett Smitheram – a recruitment consultant from Basingstoke – hoping to hold on to the title he won last year.
Over 100 competitors took part in the competition last year.
