Saturday A34 closure for oversized load movement between Stone and Stafford

Abnormal LoadThe A34 between Stone and Stafford, between Yarlet Lane and the Redhill Roundabout, will be closed in both directions on Saturday, the 21st of January for the movement of an oversized load.

The A34 will be closed in both directions for a 1.5 hour period from 8:00am to 11:00am, between the Redhill roundabout and Yarlet Lane. Those planning to travel during this time should factor in extra time for the diversion route.

The oversized load will be transported from GE Stafford to Cheshire. For safety, no vehicles will be permitted on the route during the closure while the load is passing through. The load will be accompanied by police, and the road will be reopened as soon as possible.

Electronic variable message signs will be in place to warn motorists of the closures and advise using other routes. These will be updated on the morning of each closure with more precise closure times as the load progresses.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:

“With these abnormal load movements along the A34 there is limited flexibility.

“While the load will be transported relatively quickly, we do need the one-and-a-half-hour slot as we are still unsure of the exact time of transportation.

“Signs will be updated with more precise times on Saturday morning.

“We’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding during this period.”
