Westbridge Park Re-development Update

New drone footage shows work progressing on the Westbridge Park re-development with Stafford Borough Council targetting a November 2023 completion.

Stone based 360 Picture UK, who provide all forms of property photography and videography services, has been capturing drone footage during the project, and this is their latest video of the progress:

A new woodland play area is now open to the public as part of a £1.5 million makeover underway at Stone’s Westbridge Park. The park is being transformed with new play equipment, a wheeled sports facility, multi-use games area, restrooms, picnic space, enhanced pathways and landscaping.

The newly opened woodland play area features a timber teepee, log climber, play trail and other natural elements like a log bench and picnic table. Additional items including woodland carvings will be installed later.

Construction firm Ground Control is leading the project, with skate park specialists Bendcrete building the wheeled sports facility. The overall project aims to provide improved recreation amenities while retaining space for local events, for things such as the Stone Food and Drink Festival, and existing football facilities.

Councillor Gillian Pardesi, Cabinet Member for Leisure at the borough council, said:

“This is such an important scheme for the people of Stone and surrounding areas, and I am very pleased that we now have this new and attractive woodland area available to families and visitors to enjoy. And it already appears to be a popular addition to the park.

“We want to make sure any new facilities are available to the public as soon as it is safe to do so, and we are working closely with the contractors to ensure the overall project will be delivered on schedule.

She added: “These great facilities will draw more visitors to the town which will help support the local economy – and the improved walking and cycling routes will offer more opportunities for people to be active while enjoying the beautiful surrounds.”

Whilst one can welcome this initiative after 20 long years of waiting I remain bitterly disappointed SBC have completely ignored port England’s objection to loss the playing fields without proper mitigation to date. The project to contrary to Sport England’s (SE) Playing Field protection policy for which SE hold an objection to this planning application.
How are the new Council going address this appalling situation. It represents a complete abuse of power and position in ignoring a government statutory consultee.

I cannot understand why the ‘top field’ was not kept as a sports field. They also seem to have missed the fact that there is a horrible flooding problem between that field and what was the bottom car park. Any rain and that area is just a muddy mess.
