After losing their dear friend Jack Carey, who lived 31 years with Cystic Fibrosis, Stone residents Emily and James Pascoe are lacing up their running shoes to raise vital funds for the centre that cared for him.
Speaking to A Little Bit of Stone, Emily and James said:
“Jack was an amazing person who we miss every day. Jack was funny, loving, and strong.
It’s been a really tough few months losing such a good friend, but we are embarking on a year-long dedication to the life of our Jack.
Neither of us are runners, and Emily has just recovered from a broken toe, so this is definitely going to be a challenge for us!”
With the weather being terrible at the moment, the duo have decided that starting the challenge in warmer climes WAS a good idea:
“We started our challenge while on holiday in Albania, the high humidity and heat giving us a different set of challenges to Stone.
Over the next year, there will be birthdays, weddings, holidays, bad weather, aches and pains, and who knows what else might get in the way.
But regardless of what happens, we will be running the 5k each and every day in memory and celebration of Jack’s life.”
The pair explained where the money raised would be going:
“The money raised from the challenge will go directly to Ward 26 at The Heartland’s Hospital in Birmingham. The nurses and staff there gave Jack the best possible support and care over the years, and it would be such an honour to help them provide the same care and better to all current and future patients.
We encourage anyone reading this to donate whatever they can, big or small, one-off donations or small contributions over the next year. Anything and everything is welcome and greatly appreciated.
If anyone wants to get involved then please reach out to us, the support will no doubt be needed along the way.
A 10 year old Jack once wrote an autobiography in which he stated that if he had one wish, it would be to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, and we want to dedicate our lives to doing anything we can to make that boy’s wish come true.”
Keep an eye out for Emily and James, as their regular daily runs will inevitably be around Stone.
