With the Christmas and New Year festivities behind us and several months of long, dark evenings and cold temperatures ahead, January can feel pretty bleak. However, Stone’s Aston Marina is offering the perfect antidote to the ‘January Blues’ – with a series of Comedy Club evenings running throughout winter…
On Friday, January 17th, Friday, January 24th, and Friday, January 31st, the marina’s Boat House venue will transform into a Comedy Club. Revellers will enjoy a delicious three-course meal before being entertained by some of the country’s top stand-up comedians.
Friday 17th January will see host Demitris Deech – one of the UK’s most natural comedians whose intellectual look at life is delivered in a cheeky, playful manner – joined by master of delivery Matt Bragg, renowned for his unique deadpan style and meticulously crafted material before headliner Gerry K takes the stage.
Gerry differs from many comedians in that his experiences are not what you’d expect from this Eastender raised in rural Essex. He has played at The Comedy Store, The Bearcat and Downstairs at The Kings Head, in addition to TV’s Take The Mike and a cameo on Jimmy Carr’s Christmas feature DVD. His humorous stories and factual tales are told with a twinkle in the eyes and leave his audiences crying with laughter.
Compere on Friday 24th January will be Adam Morrison, whose strange outlook on life and love and all that it brings will leave you wanting more. Adam will welcome to the stage quick-witted, slow walking, fast rising star, Ricky Balshaw – without question, the funniest Paralympic Dressage medallist in the UK, perhaps the world! Stepping over his cerebral palsy like it’s the mildest of inconveniences, Ricky pulls his audience into a joyfully dark world of self-deprecating hilarity.
Following Ricky will be headliner Phil Walker, who has been in demand since being voted City Life Comedian of the Year at the famous comedy store in Manchester. His great act, along with his warm personality and charm, has made him one of the most sought-after entertainers around today.
The final January Friday lineup – on the 31st – will feature host Tony Cowards, a rapid-fire gag merchant with an arsenal full of one-liners. Something of a Twitter sensation, Tony’s jokes turn up in all sorts of places, from greetings cards to The Times newspaper – so even if you’ve never heard of him there’s a good chance that you’ll have laughed at one of his gags.
Following Tony will be loveable Welshman David Arnold- an award-winning comedian who blends both mainstream and alternative comedy styles in an original and memorable way, before headline act Dawn Bailey takes the stage. A forty-something (ahem, just turned 50) Mum who views life through happy specs and giddy knickers (her own words).
Comedy Club tickets are £49pp, including a 3-course meal. Tables of 2 – 10 guests are available, and each party will have its own table for the comedy club.
Alongside the January Comedy Club evenings, the marina is set to play host to the UK’s No.1 Peter Kay tribute act, Lee Lard, on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th February; tickets £55pp, including a three-course meal.
