Stone man convicted of multiple sexual offences following trial

A Stone man has been found guilty of five sexual offences following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Shane Davis, aged 36, was convicted on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, after a jury found him guilty of two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The offences took place between 2018 and 2023.

Davis had denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all charges at the start of his trial. The case was brought following a police investigation launched after reports were made in November 2023.

He was originally charged with seven offences in total, including:

  • Three counts of rape of a woman
  • Three counts of sexual assault of a female
  • One count of intentional strangulation

Following the trial, the jury returned guilty verdicts on five of the charges: two rapes and three sexual assaults. He was found not guilty on the remaining two counts.

Support for survivors

Detective Inspector Lewis Haigh from the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit (RASSO) paid tribute to those who came forward.

“The survivors in this case have shown immense bravery in coming forward and giving evidence in court,” he said. “They were supported by specialist RASSO investigators, case builders and our partners including Staffordshire Women’s Aid.

“We’re determined to take robust action against those responsible for sexual offences and violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls across Staffordshire, and this is another example of that commitment.”

Sentencing next steps

Davis is due to return to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday, 10th September 2025.
