Stone Old Alleynians battle to draw away at Stourport Swifts

Stone Old Alleynians came away with a well-earned point on Saturday, 30th August 2025, after a 1-1 draw at Stourport Swifts in the Capelli Sport Midland Football Premier League.

Early chances for the hosts

The long trip to Stourport meant the visitors were slow out of the blocks. Inside three minutes, Stourport’s No.10, Leslie Omorodion, found himself free in the box only eight yards out but dragged his shot wide.

Alleynians soon settled and pressed forward. Sam Bowater intercepted a loose pass on 20 minutes but was denied before he could get a shot away. Stourport tried their luck at the other end, Jim Hanson firing over from distance after a corner fell his way.

Frustrations before the break

The home side appealed loudly for a penalty just before the half-hour, but the referee waved play on after their No.2 went down theatrically. The Old Boys almost capitalised when keeper Josh Lewis slipped, gifting Jack Tomlinson a chance. The Stourport stopper just recovered in time to smother the ball at the striker’s feet.

Five minutes after the restart, the deadlock was broken. Alleynians failed to clear their lines and the ball was worked down the right. Josh McKenzie pounced inside the area, poking it beyond Raajan Gill to make it 1-0.

Alleynians respond

The Old Boys pushed back quickly. Joe Baxter surged down the right wing and crossed dangerously, only for Askey to be inches away from connecting. On the hour, Morgan Russell’s effort was well saved by Lewis, pushing it round the post for a corner.

The pressure finally told in the 73rd minute. After a flurry of shots inside the box, the ball broke to Jack Tomlinson, who rifled home from the edge of the area to level at 1-1.

Moments later, Tomlinson could have doubled his tally, rising for a clear header but directing it straight at the keeper.

Even finish

Stourport rallied late on, but skipper Matt Thomas made a crucial sliding tackle to halt one dangerous move. In the closing minutes, a cross from the left went begging as no home forwards were on hand to finish. Both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
