Residents are invited to attend the local World Day of Prayer service, taking place at St Dominic’s Church on Margaret Street on Friday 6 March at 2 pm.

About the World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical Christian movement led by women and celebrated across many countries each year. The event takes place annually on the first Friday in March, with services organised by churches and communities around the world.

The movement first began in the nineteenth century, bringing together women from different Christian traditions to pray and reflect on shared concerns. Over time it has grown into a global initiative involving churches across dozens of countries.

Each year the service is prepared by women from a different country, who share reflections, prayers and stories from their own communities.

Their contributions shape the prayers, readings and themes used in services held worldwide, offering an opportunity for people attending locally to learn more about faith and life in another part of the world.

In Stone, the service will take place at St Dominic’s Church, Margaret Street.

Organisers say everyone is welcome to attend, whether they are regular churchgoers or simply interested in learning more about the tradition.

Refreshments will be served after the service, giving those attending a chance to stay and chat.

The gathering begins at 2 pm on Friday 6 March.
