Rita’s open studio before Olympic duty

Stone artist and Olympic torchbearer Rita Banks will be opening her studio to the public on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May from 11am to 3.30pm on both days.

Rita’s latest paintings will be on display and for sale,  from landscapes to colourful abstracts. Also on sale will be some art materials and frames. Her studio is at Farthings, just outside Moddershall, almost opposite the Moddershall cricket ground. Tea and coffee will be served and it is also an opportunity to speak to Rita before she carries the Olympic Torch!

Rita will be carrying the Olympic Torch on the Potteries leg of the relay. This part of the relay starts at the Potteries Museum in Hanley at 7am on Thursday 31st May. Rita will be the fourth runner and will be in the centre of Hanley on the Potteries Way. She has been given a start time for her leg of 7.11am.

Rita, aged 68, is a member of Stone Master Marathoners and was the first woman to run 100 marathons and is still an active runner today. She once ran 52 marathons in a single year!
