Get into the swing at Stone Driving Range

A cut-price coaching course to get young people into golf is being launched at Stone Driving Range next month, with six one-hour sessions up for grabs for just a tenner in total.

The course at the range in Cold Norton is open to 14 to 25-year-olds and is part of a new project organised by Stafford Borough Council. The golf coaching course will take place every Wednesday for six weeks from 19th September between 7pm and 8pm with a total cost of £10. It’s a big reduction, with a one-hour lesson usually costing £40.

It’s being run by Rob Grier, head professional coach at Stone Driving Range, a Level 3 PGA professional with 20 years’ coaching experience. The coaching will be informal group sessions covering the basics of golf. All equipment will be provided.

The project is funded by Sportivate – part of ‘Places People Play’, the 2012 mass participation legacy programme which is being delivered by Sport England.

If people take part in all six sessions they will be given a club when they complete the course. Attendees will also benefit from reduced tuition fees for a future coaching session as well as concessionary prices on buckets of balls to use at Stone Driving Range.

Councillor Mike Smith, Cabinet member for leisure at Stafford Borough Council said: “It is really important that we involve as many of our young residents as possible in physical activity. We hope that this latest in a series of Sportivate projects run by the council will encourage more participation in sport.”
