The first trial session of A Little Bit of Co-Working at The Butchers Block was a fantastic success. Around 35 people attended throughout the day. I was really pleased to see many stayed for nearly the entire session, enjoying the opportunity to work in a shared and hopefully productive environment.
One of the highlights was seeing people unexpectedly reconnect with familiar faces and others who specifically attended to have in-person meetings. The blend of casual networking and purposeful collaboration created a great atmosphere reinforcing the value of a co-working space in Stone.
Lessons Learned & Improvements
While overall, the day went smoothly, we’ve gathered some valuable insights to make next week’s session even better:
- More power outlets – Demand for charging points was high, so we’ll be increasing the number of power outlets at the tables.
- Optimised layout—We’re looking to shuffle some of the tables around to make better use of the space and encourage people to work alongside each other.
- Better networking visibility – We’re looking at ways to help attendees know who’s in and what they do, as this could be a great way to encourage further connections. What do you think? Would a system for identifying attendees and their work be useful?
- Dedicated social area – What are people’s thoughts on designating the bar section as a social space at 12pm, so anyone who wants to mingle and chat can head there for a casual networking opportunity?
Future Plans & Expanding Opportunities
Would you be interested in additional co-working days during the week? While The Butchers Block has been a fantastic host, there’s no guarantee they can accommodate us on other days, but we could explore other potential venues to keep this initiative going. Let us know your thoughts!
Sustainability & Paid Model Considerations
While the trial sessions are free, to ensure the long-term sustainability, we may need to consider a paid model – especially if we need to hire venues. We’d love to hear your thoughts on potential pricing structures—would you prefer a fixed monthly fee covering a set number of sessions, or a pay-as-you-go model for daily or half-day use? Your input will help shape the future of A Little Bit of Co-Working.
A Huge Thank You
A massive thank you to everyone who came along, and a special shoutout to the team at The Butchers Block for their incredible support. They not only hosted the event on a day they would usually be closed but also generously provided free tea and coffee for attendees. Additionally, they went above and beyond by bringing in a chef who curated a small lunch menu, allowing people to purchase food and make the most of their day.
