A34 road closures for works commencing 8th July

Road Closed StoneStone residents will face a series of road closures from July 8th, as roadworks to resurface the A34 take place.

Thanks to Stone Urban County Councillor Jill Hood, and with feedback from the county council media team, we’ve managed to get to the bottom of closures identified on the A34 road signs that have warned of closures from the 8th to 17th of July.

The road closure covers the A34 from the Walton Island to The Darlaston Island, and is to allow for asphalt preservation works on the carriageway. You can see details of the roadworks on the One Network website – https://one.network/?tm=129256183

The times of the road closure will be as follows:

  • Weekdays – 6 pm – 10 pm
  • Weekends – 9 am – 4 pm

The estimated end date for the works is Thursday the 14th July 2022.

Please Note: Road closures WILL allow access for residents along the route.

The diversion route is shown on One.Network link above. The diversion takes you from the Walton Island on to the Eccleshall road, down to Eccleshall and then back up north to Slindon, Mill Meece on the Newcastle Road to A51, which takes you to the Darlaston Island. Due to the the road being an “A” class road, alternative route may seem a long, but this allows all forms of transport to use this diversion temporarily.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council told A Little Bit of Stone:

“Good roads are important to residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained.

“The resurfacing works on the A34 Stone Road at Fillybrooks are part of our preventative treatment programme which helps to extend the life of our roads and keep them in good condition.  As always, highways crews will be doing everything they can to minimise any inconvenience and we would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”

Trying, without success how this will impact the 101 bus service….the 100 (Stone/Hanley via Barlaston) has recently been diverted due to the work on Old Road

Any chance they’ll fill the potholes around the Walton roundabout first??

Asphalt preservation works, does this mean surface dressing in English?

  • Has this been co-ordinated with the multiple utility companies so they don’t come digging it up 6 weeks down the line.

Will the repairs be level and long lasting, or of the same bumpy low standard as the recent ones?
