Stone families among Staffordshire parents offered first choice school places

Most families across Staffordshire have been offered their first choice of school for children starting Reception this September, according to figures released by Staffordshire County Council.

School Admissions

In Stone, where children usually attend first schools rather than primary schools, families applying for places will start finding out from today, Thursday 16 April 2026, whether they got their preferred school.

The county council said 8,089 of the 8,517 places allocated this year went to parents’ first choice school.

That works out at almost 95 per cent, with 8,460 children, more than 99 per cent, offered one of their top three preferences.

The council said the figure is above last year’s national average for first preference offers, which stood at 92.6 per cent.

Janet Higgins, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said

“Finding out your child’s primary school place is a big moment for any family, and we want parents to have that information promptly.

“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to offer almost all families one of their preferred schools again this year, with the great majority receiving their first choice. That’s thanks to the hard work of our admissions team, and to parents who submitted their preferences by the deadline.”

Parents who applied online are being emailed with the outcome from today onwards.
