Adies Alley footpath closed for emergency structural inspection

Adies Alley - Maltings Work

A temporary closure is in place for Adies Alley in Stone, preventing pedestrian access between Crown Street and the Maltings Building boundary.

The closure, issued by Staffordshire County Council, is scheduled to remain until 11:59 pm on 8th May 2025. It’s to allow for emergency structural inspection works being carried out by Compass Property Engineering, with the council citing a risk of danger to the public during the works.

Businesses near the closure remain open and accessible. Griffins of Stone, the Secret Tea Room and Mud Pottery can all still be reached from the High Street end of Adies Alley.

For those on foot, there are a couple of handy detours. You can either walk alongside the library to cut between Crown Street and the High Street, or take a slightly longer route past Oatcakes and Milkshakes.

Pedestrian access connected directly with the works will still be permitted, and an official diversion is signposted on site. The closure may be extended for a further 21 days if necessary, through a second notice.
