Adults who want to try their hand at slalom canoeing can give it a whirl at one of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club’s taster sessions on the River Trent at Westbridge Park.
There will be four adult taster sessions this year, starting on Thursday 28th April.
Stafford and Stone Canoe Club is undoubtedly the most successful canoe slalom club in the UK, with over 60 world medals in both senior and junior international championships, not to mention three Olympians. Club member Joe Clarke is the latest and he’ll be flying the flag for Team GB – and the club – at the Rio Olympics this summer.
The club has been training paddlers at its Westbridge Park site since it was set up in 1973, introducing locals from Stone and surrounding towns and villages to the sport at their yearly taster sessions.
And it’s not just for kids – the sport accommodates all ages, abilities and genders. There are Canoe Slalom races all over the UK, so if you enjoy weekends away, this could be ideal for you and your family or friends.

[box type=”info” align=”aligncenter” ]Canoe slalom is one of the most spectacular watersports, demanding skill, stamina and courage. The aim is to run a rapid river course marked by ‘gates’ fast, and without touching the gate poles. Missing a gate or touching the poles incurs penalties which are then added to your overall run time. For more detailed information on the sport, visit www.canoeslalom.co.uk [/box]
