Air ambulance attends Stone after teenage girl gets into difficulty in the River Trent

A teenage girl was rescued by emergency services this afternoon after being swept away in the fast-flowing River Trent by Westbridge Park in Stone.

The incident happened shortly before 3pm this afternoon, 16th June, near to the Stone and Stafford Canoe Club at Westbridge Park. Ambulance, Staffordshire Fire Service and Staffordshire Police all attended the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson told A Little Bit of Stone:

“We were called at 2.56pm to reports of a patient in the water near to Stafford and Stone Canoe Club on Stafford Street.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one female patient who was rescued from the water by the fire service.

She was assessed by ambulance staff and able to be discharged at the scene uninjured.”

We’d like to remind people once again that there are many dangers in the River Trent. As well as being fast-flowing, especially after rainfall, cattle graze upstream of it and often use the stream to “go to the toilet”.
