The future of trampolining at Alleyne’s Sports Centre is hanging in the balance after it emerged that the centre’s two trampolines have been out of action since April – and there is no money to buy new ones.
The centre’s two trampolines were deemed unfit for use – but they haven’t been repaired or replaced, meaning the end of the popular Saturday morning trampoline sessions at the borough council-run centre, as well as no trampolining during the summer school holiday.
Stone mum Cath Eccles – whose daughter is a keen trampolinist – took to Stafford Borough Council’s Get Out! summer holiday activity Facebook page today to find out why. Here’s the conversation:
Cath had been trying to find out what was happening to the trampolines since last April – her daughter, as well as attending trampoline sessions in the school holidays, was a regular at the Saturday morning trampoline club.
Cath said: “It will be a great shame if we lose the trampolines at Alleyne’s permanently. My daughter did trampolining on a Saturday – it was so popular that they did three different sessions. The summer holiday ones were well attended and booked up as well. I know there were sessions in the school holidays for children with disabilities too.
“Trampolining is a fantastic way for young people to get exercise and stay fit. Children in Stone are losing out and will continue to lose out if the trampolines are not repaired or replaced.”
A borough council spokesman would only confirm that the council had seen the Facebook comments and was looking into the issue.
