Alpacas, a Texas flag and a sunny day out to remember at Stone Farmers’ Market

Stone Farmers' Market

Alpacas on the High Street, a flag-raising for Texas, and the return of the monthly Farmers’ Market all mean there’s plenty to see and do in Stone on Saturday 1st March.

A High Street filled with stalls, alpacas and Texas pride

There’s always something to look forward to when Stone Farmers’ Market comes to town, but the market in March is shaping up to be an extra special one. In addition to a fantastic lineup of traders, visitors will be able to meet some rather unexpected guests.

Acton Hill Alpacas will be bringing a few of their friendly animals along to the market, giving visitors the chance to say hello, snap a selfie and learn more about the upcoming British Alpaca Society National Show. Whether you’re an alpaca enthusiast or just fancy a picture with one of these gentle animals, it’s a unique opportunity to get up close to some very fluffy faces.

Explore the Farmers’ Market and council stalls

The market itself will be packed with independent traders, offering everything from handmade crafts to tempting treats. Regular favourites will be joined by some new faces, all adding to the variety that makes each Farmers’ Market so popular.

Head into town and make a day of it

With so much happening on the High Street, it’s the perfect excuse to enjoy everything Stone has to offer. Take a stroll around the town centre and discover the brilliant range of independent shops, from gift and homeware stores to fashion, crafts and more.

There are plenty of places to stop for coffee, brunch, or a meal, with cafés, pubs, and restaurants all ready to welcome visitors. Whether you’re making a day of it or just popping in for a browse, the Farmers’ Market is a great starting point for exploring Stone.

The Texas flag takes pride of place

One of the more unusual highlights of the day will be the raising of the Texas flag at noon, led by Councillor Jim Davies. Stone has a special connection with Texas, thanks to its twinning with the city of Carthage. This honorary relationship was granted in recognition of the kindness shown by the people of Stone to US airmen stationed at Yarnfield during the Second World War.

It’s a tradition that’s been celebrated in Stone for many years, and always draws a crowd. Councillor Philip Leason MBE JP will join the ceremony, along with Florence Brass Band, Stone Choral Society, Stone Detachment (Mercian Regiment) Army Cadets, and 2352 (Stone) Squadron ATC. Local groups and residents are all welcome to come along and be part of the occasion.

A full day of local fun

With alpacas, live music, community stalls, a full day of shopping, food, and friendly faces, the Stone Farmers’ Market on Saturday 1st March offers something for everyone. Whether you’re a regular market-goer or just fancy seeing what all the fuss is about, there’s no better time to head into town and enjoy everything Stone has to offer.
