A man has been taken to hospital after his car crashed into a fence on Waterworks Bend in Stone – the third crash this year at the notorious stretch.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Longton Road at about 2.55pm on Saturday 24th March and the driver was treated at the scene for facial injuries after a wooden pole went through his windscreen in the crash.
He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for further assessment and specialist treatment.
There were two crashes in less than 24 hours at Waterworks Bend in February, and Stone Festival chairman John Sayer posted on Twitter this afternoon: “Unfortunately a regular occurrence over the last 20 years – although it does seem to be getting worse in the last few months.”

After countless accidents here I think its a given that there will be more, but simply installing crash barriers would massively reduce the number of casualties. A big killer in RTC’s is when you hit objects by the roadside. Alongside this stretch of bends are trees, fences and metal railings. If you’re lucky to not hit one of the above you’ve got a 10 foot drop into a stream to contend with. Install crash barriers and reduce casualties. Then we should look at reducing the number of accidents by lowering the speed limit, installing rumble strips, vehicle activated signs, etc.

It is a very dangerous sharp double bend – speed limit is officially
50 mph, but if you take it at greater than 30 mph you are asking for trouble. It would be very expensive, if not
impracticable, to straighten the road there, but a relatively small amount of
money spent on slowing the traffic would save lives and the trauma associated
with road traffic accidents.

also it would cost a lot straightening it but why dont they stop using money from the stone ring road and use it more effectivley!!

Well why don’t people just slow down?
