Appeal for information on Stone corporal

A historian has appealed for information about a man from Stone who died in the Second World War for his new book.

Andrew Woolhouse from Devon is writing the history of the 13th Parachute Battalion and wants to include a record of every battalion member who died during the 1939-45 War.

He said: “I am looking for information about Cpl Reginald Brassington. He was a member of the 13th Parachute Battalion and died on 19th August 1944. The only information I have is that he was from Stone.

“The purpose of my request is to help complete my book about the 13 Para Bn. Part of the book is a complete record of every 13 Para man who gave his life during the Second World War as a tribute. I have no details whatsoever on Cpl Brassington other than he lost his life attacking a hill at Putot-en-Auge in Normandy along with 30 others. If anyone can help me in any way or has any other information on the 13th Parachute Battalion, I would be very grateful.”

If you can help, please email Andrew at roodymiller@btinternet.com And please let us know too by emailing news@alittlebitofstone.com

Passed this story onto a contact I have in Australia, Jamie. He has the same surname and is originally from Stone/Oulton area, so I thought he would probably be related somehow. Seems that this corporal was his uncle! I know he has since contacted the author. The power of the interweb, eh??
