Appeal to Stone residents after kitchen fire in the town

Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service has reminded Stone residents to make sure kitchen appliances are switched off when they leave their properties after a fire in the town on Monday.

Crews from Stone were called to a property in Priory Road at 12.30pm after neighbours had reported hearing a smoke alarm and a dog barking. Firefighters forced entry into the property and put out the fire, which had started in the cooker. The occupier had forgotten to turn it off when they left the property earlier that day.

Paul Richins, assistant area commander for Stafford, said: “The fire left the kitchen heat- and smoke-damaged but could have been far worse if the fire alarm hadn’t alerted neighbours. We’d like to remind people to check they’ve turned off appliances before leaving the kitchen or the property.”
