Youngsters across Staffordshire are stepping up to the challenge of competing in IRONKIDS Staffordshire when it rolls into the county next summer.
Families can now register their interest in the junior event of the inaugural IRONMAN® 70.3 Staffordshire – with demand for the running event expected to outstrip places.
Taking place on Saturday June 13, IRONKIDS focuses on fun and fitness and will also take place at the historic Shugborough Estate – home to the finishing stage of IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire, the following day.
IRONKIDS is open to children aged between three 3 and 15 and will involve running between 500 metres and 2.5 kilometres.
Kevin Stewart, Managing Director IRONMAN UK & Ireland, said: “The IRONMAN® 70.3 Staffordshire is completely sold out and we are expecting youngsters to be equally as quick off their marks.
“The venue of Shugborough is the perfect backdrop and as part of our successful partnership with Staffordshire County Council we hope to see young and old being part of IRONMAN for years to come.”
Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment & Transport, said: “Attracting a world-famous sporting event like IRONMAN® is great news for Staffordshire’s economy, tourism and local people and I am delighted that with IRONKIDS this really has become a family affair.
“While IRONKIDS might not be as challenging as the main event, it is a great opportunity for more families to sign up to keep fit and healthy together.”
Up to 2,000 children are expected to sign up for the event and families can find out more about pre-registering their interest at https://www.ironman.com/
