A brand new hot delicacy will be available at Stone farmers’ market on Saturday 2nd April – and the trader who’ll be selling them says it’s the first market in the country to offer them.
‘Battercakes’ are described as a cross between a pancake and a popover and are filled with single or double fillings, either savoury or sweet, like bacon, brie or roasted pepper and marshmallow, mango, fudge or banana. There’s also peanut butter and sweetcorn or caramel apple and cheddar, and lots more.
The Baker’s Man stall will be selling the battercakes for the first time on 2nd April in Stone.
A portion of three cost from £2, or a family plate of seven, double filled, cost £5.
If you try them, let us know what you think!

I ate the very first Battercake cooked at the Farmers’ Market! At about 8.30 am the Bakers Man offered me his first sampling! Filled with sausage and beans, it was superb. I went back a bit later and tried the brie whilst Janet had the chocolate and banana filling! By late afternoon a very tired but happy Bob expressed the view that the day had been a great success. He didn’t know what his takings were but the ‘banter’ had been fantastic! I’m sure he’ll be back next month! Well done!

I missed out unfortunately as I was in London all weekend. I’ll definitely be sampling some at the next farmers’ market in Stone though 🙂
