Do you know anything of the history of this cup?
It’s a ‘loving cup’ and was bought by chef Paul Gilmore, who runs ‘Gilmore’s at The Wheatsheaf’ in Oulton.
The large, ceramic cup says ‘James Waring, Wheat Sheaf Oulton, 1816’.
Was the cup produced for the opening of the pub? Was James Waring the first landlord? And why just one name on the loving cup, which traditionally had two?
Questions, questions!
If you can help Paul with some information, leave a comment on this article below or send us an email to news@alittlebitofstone.com

Not directly related due to the age of this cup (1816) but the only reference I’ve ever heard of a similar cup is the one that Rangers FC received from Stoke City back in the 30’s. You can read about that in the following link https://theibroxroar.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/the-loving-cup-tradition/
