Chief condemns attacks on firefighters

Two attacks on firefighters in Staffordshire have been condemned by chief fire officer Peter Dartford.

The incidents took place in two different areas of the county, but Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service says it is unable to release specific details and locations due to ongoing investigations.

[box type=”shadow” ]Peter Dartford said: “A firefighter’s job is to protect the community. It is a role that our firefighters take extremely seriously. For a firefighter to be attacked by members of the community in which they serve is deeply shocking. Not only could these attacks have seriously injured a firefighter and prevented or delayed a crew from dealing with the incident they had been called out to, it could also have put members of the public’s lives at risk.[/box]

[box type=”shadow” ]“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue. If anyone has any information regarding the identity of any individual involved in an attack on a firefighter, I would urge them to do the right thing and contact the police.”[/box]

Anyone with information on any incident relating to attacks on firefighters is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
