It’s been really strange this last few months not to have the sound of St Michael’s church bells ringing out over the town.
In October last year they were taken down and transported to the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London for recasting or retuning after more than £100,000 was raised to get the church’s peal of bells restored and some new ones made too.
The church bells will be returning to Stone later this month and will be blessed in a service conducted by the Bishop of Stafford before being hung in the church tower.
The church will be holding an open day on Saturday 23rd February from 10am to 4pm for people to see the bells. This will be the only chance most people will ever have to see church bells up close without having to climb up into a tower. The church’s ringers will be on hand to answer any questions and light refreshments will also be available. It will also be an ideal time to look round the rest of this beautiful and historic church.
The service of blessing of the bells will take place on Sunday 24th February at 1.30pm and will be conducted by the Bishop of Stafford. Everyone is welcome to attend.
