A beacon will be lit in Stone on Thursday 21st April to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Stone’s town mayor will light the beacon at the top of St Michael’s Church at 8.30pm, one of over a thousand to be lit across the world.
The Queen herself will light the principal beacon at Windsor Castle, followed by over 1,000 beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas territories and the Commonwealth.
Beacons will be lit at churches, on farms, country parks, village greens and on country estates. Lighthouses, National Trust and English Heritage properties are also taking part, and the Army Cadet Force is taking special gas-fuelled Beacons to the top of the four highest peaks in the UK.
