Stone Heritage Centre has a series of free events lined up in July, with art, archaeology and children’s storytelling all on the programme.

The events take place at the centre on Newcastle Street and include a practical art demonstration by local artist Craig Sumner, a chance to meet archaeologists working on a nearby historic site, and a Story Morning for younger children.
The first event is a practical art demonstration by Craig Sumner on Saturday 18 July, from 2pm to 4pm.

The free session follows Craig’s exhibition of artwork depicting Stone and the surrounding area. During the event, he will be sketching the Town Mayor and sharing tips, methods and observations as he works.
The session is aimed at art lovers, beginners and more experienced creatives, with time for questions and discussion. Places are free but should be booked in advance through Eventbrite, with details available by scanning the QR code on the event poster.
On Saturday 25 July, Stone Heritage Centre will host Meet the Archaeologist with Stoke-on-Trent Museum Archaeological Society.

The free event runs from 11am to 4pm and will focus on work carried out at Chimney Field, near Hilderstone, where members of the society have been investigating a late sixteenth-century dwelling since 2018.
Some discoveries from the site are already on display at Stone Heritage Centre, and visitors will be able to meet the team behind the excavation, see additional artefacts and learn more about the techniques used to uncover the past.
The event is part of the Council for British Archaeology’s annual Festival of Archaeology.
The team is also keen to hear from anyone who remembers the chimney that once stood in the field, or who may have photographs of it before it disappeared.
The final July event currently listed is a Story Morning on Monday 27 July for children aged one to six.

The free sessions are Toy Time Travellers at 10am and Elves and the Shoemaker at 11.15am.
All three events take place at Stone Heritage Centre, 13 Newcastle Street, Stone, ST15 8JX.
