Viking battles, living history and free family activities will take over Westbridge Park in Stone this Saturday, 25 July.
Stone Town Council’s Warriors at Westbridge event begins at 10.45am with a Viking procession from the council building car park on Station Road to Westbridge Park.
Accompanied children are being encouraged to join the parade as it makes its way through Stone.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to watch battle displays and living history demonstrations, explore a Viking encampment and learn more about the everyday lives of Viking families.
There will also be traditional crafts and opportunities to meet the warriors, try on armour and helmets and handle Viking weapons under supervision.
Children can take part in the popular Kiddie Vike mock battles, while free special effects battle scar make-up will be available from noon until 4pm. The make-up will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic, with a selection of food and drink vendors also due to be at Westbridge Park.
Councillor Jill Hood, chairman of Stone Town Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said
“Stone Town Council know that keeping children entertained during the summer holidays can be a challenge, and finding fun, interesting and free activities is not always easy.
“We are delighted to be bringing this exciting new event to Stone and giving local families the opportunity to experience Viking life first-hand.”
She added
“Bring the whole family along and discover what life was really like for Viking warriors of the 10th and 11th centuries.”
Warriors at Westbridge is free to attend.
