Consultation Into St. Dominic’s Priory School Development

St. Dominic’s Priory School is hosting a public consultation event about their proposed new teaching accomodation block.

The consultation event will take place on Friday 9th Feb between 5pm and 7pm and will be held in Priory Hall, adjacent to the visitor’s car park off Station Road.

Due to the implications of the proposed redevelopment of the St. Dominic’s Convent site the school has put forward a number of plans to build a new replacement teaching accommodation block at the rear of the school.

The new building will be situated on the existing staff car park by the canal.  Three planning applications have been submitted for: an extension to the existing visitors’ car park; temporary classrooms on the extended car park (for use during construction of the permanent replacement classrooms); and the use of no. 37 Station Road for school administration activities.  A planning application for the new replacement teaching accommodation at the rear of the school.

Here is an artists impression of what the new block may look look howeer it may differ by the time the plan is submitted.

St Dominics Consultation

Mrs Rebecca Harrison, Head Teacher, said:

“The proposals will have a hugely beneficial impact on the school and we are confident that they will have a positive impact on the character and appearance of the surrounding area and cause no material harm to neighbours’ amenity.  Furthermore, the proposals will not result in increased pupil or staff numbers or therefore any increase in traffic and demand for car parking, whilst there will be no reduction in off-street parking available within the school. ”

Mrs Harrison will be on hand, aong with other representatives of the school and design team to show and explain the plans to people who attend.

“We do hope that people will take this opportunity to visit our school to find out more about our exciting proposals and we look forward to speaking with them.  If someone isn’t able to attend. but they have any questions or concerns then I’d ask that they contact me on the school office number 01785 814181” -Mrs Harrison added.
