Dog derby thrills and spills!

Whoops! One of the dog derby pairs get a soaking during the dog derby

This year’s Steeplechase and Dog Derby took place on Monday evening, with an impressive 89 runners taking part in the two races.

The course was a short fun run through Westbridge Park, the canalside and back through Crown Meadow to the park.

Town mayor Cllr Mrs June Price was present to send the runners off and to welcome them home and present the winners with their medals.

Sixty-seven runners of all ages took part in the steeplechase and the winners in each class were:

  • U16 Girl: Elisha Walker
  • Adult Female: Kate Connor
  • Veteran Female: Maxine Cooper
  • U16 Boy: Bradley Bullough & James Boote (dead heat)
  • Adult Male: Matt Jennings
  • Veteran Male: Stephen Hulme

Immediately following the steeplechase the Dog Derby was run over the same course, with 22 runners – and many of them went again this time with their canine friends.

The Dog Derby results were:

  • U16 Girl: Elisha Walker with Ruby
  • Over 16 Female: Sarah Burton with Scooby
  • U16 Boy: Oliver Harrison with Yogi
  • Over 16 Male: Daniel Bigham with Tally

The event was a joint effort between the Stone Master Marathoners (who set out the course and provided marshals) and Stone’s Inner Wheel Club.
