Epic fundraisers meet by chance in Stone!

David Smith and Speedo Mick in Stone town centre on Friday morning

Two men who are in the middle of epic fundraising challenges met by chance in Stone last week when they stayed in the town.

One is walking 200 miles south, the other is running 500 miles north – and their paths crossed in Stone.

Everton fan Mick Cullen – better known as Speedo Mick – was in Stone on Thursday and Friday on his walk from Liverpool to Wembley for this Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final.

Mick is doing the 10-day walk to raise money for the Woodlands Hospice. He set off from Goodison Park last Tuesday (12th April) and will arrive in London in plenty of time (hopefully) to see his beloved Blues take on Manchester United.

Mick, who walked from Bournemouth to London earlier this year and has also swum the Channel, has been raising money all season for the Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust, where a friend’s father was treated. He has now raised more than £30,000 and hopes to reach £50,000 by the end of the season. You can make a donation HERE and keep up to date with his adventure by following Mick on Twitter.

He caused quite a stir as he entered Stone along the A34 on Thursday afternoon in his Speedos and set off again on Friday – in horrible weather – to his next stop-over in Lichfield.

Mick spent the night at the Crown Hotel where – in a huge coincidence – he met a fellow fundraiser who was also staying the night in the town.

David Smith is raising money for a hospice, too – the Forest Holme Hospice- by running from Bournemouth to Glasgow in just 21 days. The pair met at the Crown Hotel by chance!

You can donate to David’s fundraiser HERE.

It’s brilliant to get so much support wherever I go, people taking photos and walking along with me for a bit for a chat. It was amazing to meet David at the hotel – what an incredible challenge he’s set himself. He’s a legend, he really is.”[/box]
