A father and son from Stone took on one of the toughest mountain races in the world – and have lived to tell the tale!
Glenn Davies, 59, and 22-year-old son Huw completed the gruelling five-day test of endurance that is the Dragon’s Back Race at the end of June.
The legendary race follows the mountainous spine of Wales from Conwy Castle to Carreg Cennen Castle. It’s around 300km long, with 16,000 metres of ascent across wild, trackless, remote and mountainous terrain and attracts fell, mountain and ultra runners from around the world.
Glenn told the SleepMonsters website: “I think it was Huw who first mentioned this and we decided to give it a go. It’s the first run of this scale we’ve done, and the first we’ve ever really been close to pulling out of. We were in the tent talking before day three and both said we were very, very tired, and for a moment we considered not getting of our sleeping bags. We survived day three and then felt the next two days were just like another mountain marathon and we could manage it. The weather threw everything at us today. Freezing temperatures, gales, rain and then lovely sunshine to finish!”
This great video gives you some idea of the challenge they put themselves through!
