There was a small fire at the canoe club on Westbridge Park on Tuesday evening (15th January).
Engineers were at the clubhouse to repair a heat pump, which set on fire. The building – which was built in 2010/11 to replace the former wooden clubhouse – was evacuated and two fire engines from Stone attended. The fire was put out using a hose reel jet.
Club member Dave Royle said: “Damage seems to be confined mainly to the heat pump itself.”
