1st Advent Window to be opened on Wednesday

Inspiration: a window is opened in Welwyn last year

The first window in Stone town centre’s giant Advent calendar will be opened by town mayor Rob Kenney on Wednesday 1st December.

The first window will be opened at Tim Tofts Violins in Station Road at noon. In the build-up to Christmas, 24 shops, businesses and organisations will decorate their windows on the theme of a different carol and unveil it on a different day in December. The violin shop has chosen Hark The Herald Angels Sing.

On Christmas Eve at 9.30am, carol singers, musicians and shoppers will parade from the Shelter charity shop in Lichfield Street, stopping at each shop to sing the appropriate carol. They will head for Christ Church, where the final window will be opened – a life-size crib scene.

There will also be an Advent Window map to complete, with stamps required from each shop and business. Children who collect all 24 stamps will receive a small gift at Christ Church on Christmas Eve. The first adult with 24 stamps will receive a free cut and blow dry at Shear Genius hairdressers in Oulton Road. Maps will be available around the town centre.

The Advent Window project is a community project organised by Christ Church member Pam Pott, who was inspired by similar projects in Welwyn Garden City and parts of London. Click here to see the list of shops and businesses taking part.
