An Audi and a Mercedes had collided in the incident. The driver of the Audi, a man in his forties, suffered only minor injuries and his passenger, a man in his late teens, had a fractured sternum. They were both taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. In the Mercedes were two men and a woman. All three were immobilised with the use of spinal boards and neck collars and were taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire but their injuries were not thought serious.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “Crews at the scene reported that, despite the apparent seriousness of the collision, all the injuries were relatively minor.”
