Six-year-old Frankie Griffin is climbing Snowdon in memory of her nannie Karen, raising money for Dougie Mac. She’s already smashed her target – but every extra pound will help more families.
Young fundraiser’s heartfelt tribute to her beloved nannie
Six-year-old Frankie Griffin is lacing up her boots and heading up a mountain, and she’s doing it with her nannie Karen in her heart and the town of Stone behind her.
Frankie is climbing Snowdon on Thursday 10th July 2025 to raise funds for Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac), who supported her nannie and the family during Karen’s final months with small cell cancer.

Karen, mum to four and a much-loved figure in the community, was well known to many for her delicious homemade pies and friendly face at Griffins of Stone butchers.
Her son Nick, who runs the popular butcher’s, said the support they received from Dougie Mac made all the difference: “They helped keep her comfortable at home and were always on hand to support us.” It’s a sentiment many local families can relate to.
But it was Frankie herself who came up with the idea. “She said one night that she wants to help ‘poorly people like Nannie’.” Already an enthusiastic walker, Frankie has explored plenty of local peaks, and the idea of tackling Snowdon, in one of her nannie’s favourite places, felt just right.
Frankie has been putting in the miles in preparation, finishing her final training walk at the end of June. Nick shared, “Frankie’s last walk before her Snowdon Challenge 10/07/25. Chrome Hill (Dragon’s Back) 6.5km… steep in places but good fun and the rain definitely made for fun sliding.”

Thanks to incredible local support, the fundraising total has already soared past its original goal. Over £2,500 has now been donated by 111 supporters. But the family hopes that with the walk now just days away, people will continue to give what they can to help Dougie Mac reach even more families.
Dougie Mac is Staffordshire’s only hospice supporting children, young adults and adults living with life-limiting illness, both at their sites and across the community. They also offer vital support for families and carers at some of life’s most difficult moments.

Let’s see how high we can push the total – and help one very determined six-year-old make a big difference.
