Staffordshire’s army of gritters will be heading out across the county for the second night in a row as temperatures are set to fall below zero once again.
The crews will be out treating the main routes on the primary gritting network and will be monitoring the weather and road conditions overnight to decide when and where further gritting may be needed.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways leader Mark Deaville said:
“We have a fleet of more than 40 gritters and have around 20,000 tonnes of salt stockpiled so we were well prepared for when the county was hit by sub-zero temperatures this weekend.
“We will be out gritting once again tonight, playing our part to keep the county on the move and ask motorists to play their part too. Regardless of whether a road has been gritted, motorists need to slow down, take extra care and allow more time for their journeys, as the most important thing is that we all get through winter safely.”
On routine winter days and nights gritters will be focusing on the major routes and extending to the wider network in prolonged ice and snow conditions.
