You can climb to the top of St Michael’s church tower on Saturday as the Stone church takes part in this year’s national Heritage Open Days event.
The church will be open between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 8th September and as well as being able to climb the church tower (weather permitting!) to see some amazing views of the town, visitors can also:
- See the 12th century Medieval seal from Stone Priory that was featured on ITV’s “Britain’s Secret Treasures” recently
- Visit the Jervis Mausoleum (where the naval hero John Jervis, Earl St. Vincent is buried)
- See a display of military memorabilia from the Stone area by Stephen Edwards
A Little Bit of Stone photographer was allowed up the tower in June when a Jubilee beacon was lit as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Have a look at his amazing photographs here.
Keen photographers should definitely go along for some amazing views – and if you do, please share your pictures with us by sending them to pictures@alittlebitofstone.com
Refreshments will be available on the day. The open day is free but donations to the church heating fund and the Priory Seal Appeal are encouraged. More information about this weekend’s Heritage Open Days here
