A local couple came to the rescue on Saturday afternoon when a visit to Stone’s recycling centre took an unexpected turn.
John Chawner contacted A Little Bit of Stone to publicly thank the people who helped his wife, Margaret, after she suffered a fall at the Stone recycling centre on 22nd March 2025.
Margaret had been carrying a bag of clothing to the appropriate skip when she tripped over a speed bump and fell, hitting her head. The impact broke her glasses and left her with a deep cut above her eye, as well as minor cuts and bruises to her hands and knees.
What happened next, according to John, was “a truly kind and public-spirited act”.
“She was immediately helped by a lovely young lady who was obviously knowledgeable in first aid,”
John said. “She put her in the recovery position and stemmed the blood flow from her head wound, with the help of the staff on duty there.”
The woman also called an ambulance and comforted Margaret before ringing John at home to let him know what had happened.
“She then kindly sent her husband to my home in Aston Lane to collect me,” John continued. “En route he told me his name was Jake and that they lived in Stone.”
By the time John arrived, the ambulance still hadn’t reached the scene, so he decided to take his wife directly to the hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries.
John doesn’t know the couple’s surname or how to contact them directly, but wanted to share his and Margaret’s sincere appreciation:
“I have no other details of this wonderful couple who could not have been more kind or helpful, as were the recycling centre staff.
Through your news channel I would like to thank them most sincerely for their public spirited actions. We are eternally grateful.”
If Jake or his wife are reading this — or if someone reading knows who they are — please know how deeply your help was appreciated.
