High Street, Post Office, parking and Co-op update

We recently caught up with the landlord of 3 key empty properties in the town

Stone has a good retail occupancy rate compared to some of our neighbours but we wanted to catch up with the landlord of the former co-op, who also owns the former Bailey’s / Patterns building as well as the old Sue Ryder Charity / Victoria Wine shop. In 2017 the landlord completed the purchase of these properties from Suma Developments and is looking to inject some life back into Stone.

Former Co-op

Let’s start with the biggest empty building in the town centre.  The former Co-op store has now been gutted and following repairs is now ready to let. Interest has been high and varied in the old supermarket. The landlord is looking for the best option for the town when it comes to selecting a tenant. Once an appropriate tenant is selected there will be work to configure the internal space to meet their requirements.

One of the biggest community losses of the Co-op closing was the Post Office which was housed in the building. Read further down for news on the Post Office!

Car Parking

The old co-op car park has had its parking charges cut to 50p per hour in an attempt to bring more people in to Stone.  The is the cheapest paid parking in town and is incredibly handy for popping in to the High Street.

Former Patterns

We think a lot of people will be pleased to hear that 15 High Street is under offer jointly with the Spar and the Post Office. Timescales aren’t known at this stage but it will be a massive boost for the town to have a Post Office open once again.  As previously reported the Post Office application can take many months to sort. Fingers crossed that the sale completes and that we have a new Post Office in the town centre for all to use.

Former Victoria Wine

This particualr property hasn’t currently been marketed as the landlord is currently focusing on filling the previously mentioned properties. Watch this space though as we’ll let you know when that changes.

Lots going on

As well as these properties there’s other things bubbling under with other empty properties. These may not always seem obvious to the casual observer but 2018 is looking like an exciting time for Stone and its High Street.

It will be great to have a P.O. back in stone. It has been sadly missed
