Stone Town Council is inviting local residents to come together in remembrance next month, with the town’s annual parade and services taking place on Sunday 9th and Tuesday 11th November 2025.

A moment of shared remembrance
Each year, the centre of Stone falls silent as hundreds gather to honour those who gave their lives in service to the country. The Remembrance Sunday parade and services are among the most significant and well-attended events in the town’s calendar, offering a chance for people of all ages to pay their respects.
This year’s commemorations will follow the familiar format that brings together ex-service personnel, youth organisations, community groups, and families from across the area.
Sunday 9th November
The day begins with a Service of Remembrance at the Walton War Memorial on Whitemill Lane at 9:30 am. Attendees are asked to arrive by 9:20 am to allow the service to start promptly.
The main parade will assemble at the bottom of the High Street from 10:15 am, before setting off at 10:35 am, led by the Stone Scout and Guide Band.
The procession will make its way to the War Memorial in Granville Square, where the Florence Brass Band will once again play as the community gathers.

At 11:00 am, the town will pause for the Two Minutes’ Silence and Service of Remembrance, followed by the laying of wreaths. Anyone wishing to lay a wreath, whether representing a group or attending individually, is asked to speak with Parade Marshal Mr I. Prescott during the parade assembly for details of the ceremony.
After the service at the War Memorial, the parade will continue along the High Street and Church Street to St Michael and St Wulfad’s Church, where the Colour and Standard Bearers will lead the way into the church for the morning’s service.
Tuesday 11th November
On Armistice Day, a short service will be held at 11:00 am at the War Memorial in Granville Square. Residents, schools, and organisations are all welcome to attend this quieter ceremony marking the moment the guns fell silent in 1918.
A tradition that unites the town
The Remembrance services remain an important part of Stone’s identity, being well attended by young and old alike. Stone Town Council has expressed thanks to all those who help bring the commemorations together, including volunteers, the bands, and representatives from local organisations.
Residents are warmly encouraged to attend either or both services to show their support and remembrance.
