A hot air balloon made a landing just off Lichfield Road last night, as these pictures by Katrina Slater show.
Katrina saw the balloon coming down just after 7pm behind Altona Court off Lichfield Road.
The company that charters the balloon rides from Shugborough – called Wickers World – said the landing was a scheduled one, although people in the area were obviously a bit concerned as the police and fire service both attended the scene after receiving calls from concerned people nearby. Its closeness to properties, as the photos show, clearly led to people calling the emergency services.
The police and fire service attended the scene by driving up Pingle Lane.
A Wickers World spokeswoman said today: “We do get people having a bit of a panic when they see a balloon coming down near buildings with the burner going. It’s quite a sight, but this was a scheduled landing.”
The Stan Robinson has a volume of 250,000 cubic feet and stands almost 100ft tall.
A big thank you to Katrina for sharing the pictures with A Little Bit of Stone via our Facebook site!

We saw this through the window of the Den – the Youth Cafe in Lichfield Road during our AGM last night. We were just talking about funding and our erstwhile Secretary and Treasurer Lee Featherstone looked out of the window at the massive balloon and said – totally unprompted – perhaps Stan Robinson has come down to sponsor the Den – so come on Stan – what do you think? (Great photos by the way!)

Ha! It would be a great way of launching his sponsorship by dropping the balloon on top of The Den!

We first heard the burner and then saw the balloon in a field with cows running around. The balloon was blowing and the basket filled with people was being dragged slightly around the field. It looked as if they were attempting to take off again, this lasted for about 10 minutes, then the balloon started to deflate.

Interesting! Sounds really dramatic. Poor cows 🙂
