Last night was the annual tradition of turning on the Stone Christmas lights and hundreds flocked to the town centre to see just that!

The hats, scarves and gloves made an appearance in Stone last night as the clear and chilly night made the perfect backdrop to the Stone Town Council Christmas lights switch on.

Couples, old and young, families as well as groups of friends flooded the High Street in Stone to soak up the festive atmosphere.   With a mix of rides for the children, food retailers, games and craft stalls the event, which kicked off from 5pm, had something for everyone. Quite of few of the independent traders also stayed open late allowing people an opportunity to pop in and shop.

At the top end of the High Street was the now traditional stage which Stone Radio used to compère the event and introduce the various performances that took place as we waited for the final 10-to-1 countdown when the plunger would be pressed and the lights throughout the town would be switched on.

The crowd were treated to local musical performances from Olivia Shipley, Stone’s Combined Schools Choir and Josie Oliver before Father Christmas, the mayor and the winner of the Stone Town Christmas Card competition all took to the stage to turn on the lights.
