The Stone based owner of a national ladies only gym chain and former Stoke City footballer is taking on an ‘Ironman’ challenge to inspire his members to achieve their own health and fitness goals.
Jamie Cartwright, 34, launched the ‘Ladyzone’ chain of fitness clubs in 2006. He will complete the event on 14th September in Pembrokeshire,Wales.

Viewed by many as one of the toughest sporting events in the world, the ‘Ironman’ challenge consists of a 2.4 mile open water swim, followed by a 112 mile cycle ride, and a 26.2 mile (i.e. full marathon) run.
Jamie, who was brought up in Rugeley, but now lives in Stone, said “I’m 34 now, and will never train for anything as physically and mentally demanding as an ‘Ironman’. This will test everything I have to the absolute limit, and I want to prove to my members that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.”
Jamie is completing the challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, after losing three of his grandparents to the disease. He has a target of £3,000.
Jamie has always had a keen interest in sport and fitness, and recently completed a triathlon, which spurred him on to enter the ‘Ironman’ event.
He added “When you embark on a physical challenge like this, and begin to make the positive lifestyle changes that go with it, you end up inspiring those around you too.”
“I am constantly amazed at what the ‘Ladyzone’ members achieve, after so many of them come through the door facing all kinds of struggles. This challenge is both to pay tribute to their achievements, and to inspire others to reach their own goals.”
