In the afternoon the Trophy will move into Stafford for the finals of the “Staffordshire Touch World Cup”. Touch Rugby is a fun fitness version of the game and mixed teams from across the county will compete for their own championship. This is being hosted at Blessed William Howard School in Stafford. The Trophy will be there from 5pm until 8pm and the event is open to all.

Cllr Mark Winnington, cabinet member for economy at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Having this iconic trophy in the county is another amazing opportunity for Staffordshire residents to get excited about the fantastic sporting offer we have here in Staffordshire. We’re hoping the Webb-Ellis trophy will inspire a generation of young people to pursue their sporting ambitions. We look forward to the tournament when we’ll all be right behind the England team!”

President of the Staffordshire Rugby Football Union, Iain Haley, commented: The Rugby World Cup is the third largest sporting event on the planet and we are delighted to have this opportunity to bring some of the excitement of the event to Staffordshire. With less than 60 days to go, these two events provide a great showcase for rugby and for the people to see the Webb Ellis trophy which England hope to be keeping in England in October.”

The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will travel through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on 18 September ahead of the opening ceremony.
