Lichfield Road resurfacing, kerbing and drainage work to add to Stone driver’s woes

Lichfield Road - RoadworksFive weeks of roadworks, which will see temporary lights and several days of full closure, get underway on Stone’s Lichfield Road tomorrow.

Staffordshire County Council have issued details on the works, which will tackle drainage, kerbing, footway patching and carriageway resurfacing near Parkhouse Drive/Grange Road/Priory Road.

Lichfield Road - Roadworks

The £270,000 scheme will be carried out by the council’s highways contractor, Amey Services, and will commence on Tuesday, the 1st of August, until Monday, the 4th of September 2023.

Works will take place during the working week, from Monday to Friday; however, temporary traffic lights will be used seven days per week/24hrs to protect the working areas.

Full Road Closure Details

Due to the width of the road and permitted safety zones, the carriageway resurfacing works will be carried out under a full road closure, with diversions in place. Lichfield Road will be closed on Monday the 14th, Tuesday the 15th, and Wednesday the 16th of August.  The route will then re-open under the temporary lights until again on Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th of August it will be closed again.

Access to frontages and side roads will be restricted/unavailable at certain times throughout the carriageway resurfacing operations; residents will be advised of access arrangements as works progress.

  • Feel sorry for the people on diversion route why did they not open bus lane through industrial complex

  • Brilliant Planning S.C.C. !!! I live near the centre of Stone and work in Ecccleshall. Like so many others I will now have to follow the diversion sign’s and try and find my way home Probably via Timbuktu knowing Staffordshire County Council!!
Whilst I understand that this work needs to be done, it does seem like the people that plan these things have no idea how closing one road let a lone two and then have major road works on the Main route through the town completely impacts on the normal day to day traffic flow. I for one am expecting my normal 20 minute Journey to triple in time over the next coming weeks.

  • Brilliantly planned, so the work is being taking place at the same time as the Wlton roundabout is being done.

If it were France the job lot would have all been completed overnight.

  • Totally agree with the previous comment.
Works going at a snails pace and major roads a nightmare to negotiate down.
Also compared to further down the Lichfield road on the crossroads of the Uttoxeter road this section of road is in excellent condition.
When I complained 18 months ago about it got told it was minor works ..now it’s potholed to death.. what a woke council we have..

  • It’s absolutely ridiculous and shows a total lack of planning that there are so many roads in Stone closed due to roadworks. It wouldn’t be such a problem if they actually got on with the work or did it with some haste. In Walton, the roadworks were in place, causing huge disruption, 3-weeks before anything started and has been at a snail’s pace ever since. In other countries (Germany, for e.g) works are moved swiftly as the job progresses (not huge stretches of road coned off) and with speed!
