Stone’s Lizzie Neave stormed into the semi-finals of the London 2012 canoe slalom with a brilliant performance in the qualifiers today.
Lizzie recorded the second fastest time at the Lee Valley White Water Centre heats in her second run, improving on her first by three seconds. You can see the full results on the BBC Olympics site here and a video highlights of Lizzie’s two runs here.
She told GB Canoeing after the heat: “I’m really happy. I went out and did what I know I’m capable of doing. On my first run I felt good, I just had a couple of time drops but I knew they were things I could easily improve on my second run which is where the time improvement came from. I was so excited, it was great to hear all the support out there, it put a smile on my face and I could hear them all the way down. I just loved it.”

It was not only thousands of Brits cheering Lizzie on at Lea Valley – there was also an avalanche of support on Twitter, including plenty from Stone and Staffordshire. You can follow Lizzie here if you’re on Twitter by the way.
Lizzie goes in the semi-finals on Thursday, which start at 2.12pm (very precise timings at these Olympics!), with the final later that day at 3.57pm.
Stoneites from all over the world have been leaving their messages of support for Lizzie on A Little Bit of Stone. You can do the same here.
