Stone opticians Scrivens looked to loyal customer Pauline Wood to officially launch their new store in the town.

Mrs Pauline Wood, aged 85, performed the honours at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Stone High Street and received a gift voucher and flowers as a thank you.

The branch has moved from its former premises at Adies Alley to the bigger, more prominent location to serve the community.

Branch manager Jack Alcock told A Little Bit of Stone:

“We have invested in a new store and we wanted to mark its opening in style. Pauline has entrusted her eye care to us for many years. She is not just a customer; she has become a friend, and was the ideal person to help us with the launch.”

Local resident Pauline, who worked for a local shoe company in her earlier life, admitted the request took her by surprise.

“It was a shock at first but I was happy to do it. I very much like the optician Larisa. All the staff are very welcoming, friendly and courteous.”

She was particularly grateful to optometrist Larisa Dorochtchak for spotting the signs of cataracts in both eyes and referring her for treatment which has been successfully carried out.

The High Street store has two testing rooms, one more than previously. It features the latest digital eye examination equipment and has a new and updated range of glasses, including a choice of value frames to the latest designer names.
